A quarry anno 1930 - A reconstruction
Quarries, such as the one in front of you, have basically only existed since the end of the 19th century. Before then, extracting rock took place close to the surface, or from »Härtlinge« boulders and block towers. Then fixed quarries sprang up, which opened up an entire flank of a mountain. Now the extraction also took place at depth; permanent operating facilities, such as cranes and trolleys, enabled the transport of heavy rocks. Our quarry missed out on the massive mechanisation and motorisation, which occurred after the Second World War. It is a »quiet« quarry, in which the rattling of pneumatic hammers and the roaring of machines are still absent. This quarry was reconstructed based on the advice and support of experienced quarry workers.
