The quarry blacksmith - Granite needs a dashing blade
Every quarry needs a forge. The overstressed stoneworking tools had to be regularly sharpened. Every rock breaker had his own shelf compartment in the forge, in which he placed his worn tool and where he found it again in a sharpened condition. The smithy manufactured the tools from steel blanks himself. The introduction of tools with carbide tipping (»Widia«) resulted in a drastic reduction in the demand for forged tools. This also meant that smithies were no longer needed in such numbers.
